• Do you give extra credit?
Yes, I do. Once each nine weeks, I will assign an extra credit assignment in Science. The assignment can be completed using your textbook, but you are welcome to use other resources. The extra credit assignment replaces your lowest grade that nine weeks.
I consider the homework grade, the AR grade, the Friday's Topic extra opportunties to improve your grade in the other subjects.
• Do you drop grades or let students retake tests?
Yes, I drop your lowest grade in math, reading, and English at the end of the nine week period. No, individuals do not retake tests. If I decide to regive a test (which is rare, but it does occasionally happen) the entire class will retake the test.
• If I forget or don't do my homework ,can I receive credit for it if I bring it in the next day?
If a student leaves their binder at home (and it contains all their homework), I will let them call and ask for it to be brought to school. However if an assignment is missing - it's just missing. I give homework passes out so that if this happens to you then you are covered. A student should always save one or two homework passes for this kind of occasion. Missing homework a time or two is not going to harm your homework grade. Homework is about independant practice of skills and responsibility.
• If I get my number on the board, will you call my parents?
No, I won't. I follow our classroom plan too. I take care of behavior issues myself unless they are severe.
• Do you really inforce your classroom rules?
Yes, I really do. I always do. It comes as a surprise to the students every year, but it is true. There are no surprises in my class. You will find me to be very consistent and fair.
• Can my parents eat lunch with me?
Yes, they may. They are more than welcome too. If you have a guest for lunch, then you may invite a classmate to sit with you and your guest at the middle table.
• What do I do if I get home and can't remember how to do my homework?
You have a couple of choices. First, ask your parents for help. You could also look on this website. You could also call a classmate, or you could also call me. Just try that's all I expect.
• Do we have class parties?
Absolutely, every chance we get! We have scheduled parties for Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. In addition, I always have an amazing Thanksgiving Feast and a Karaoke party at the end of the school year. You are also welcome to bring cupcakes, cake...etc. on your birthday - or any other day! I like parties.
• If I mess up at school, does that mean you won't like me anymore or treat me differently?
No way! Mistakes are part of life. I make them and so will you. Everyday is a new day in our classroom.
• What do I do if someone is picking on me? I don't want to be a tattle-tale.
That is called bullying, and it is not tolerated in our school or classroom. I would prefer that you come and talk to me, but I know sometimes that is hard for students to do. So if you aren't comfortable talking to me then write me a letter and place it in our mailbox (make sure you put your name on it). I'll do my best to handle the situation without the other person knowing that you told. However, if I do have to talk to them, I won't let them bother you about it. I promise! You should feel safe in our room. No-one has the right to take that away from you.
• May I bring my ipod or mp3 player to school for recess?
No, I'm sorry, but that is against school policy. The reason being, expensive things sometimes come up missing. You just need to leave it at home.
