Meet Your Teacher

 All About Me

My name is Valerie Milnes. I graduated from Florida International University in December 2003 with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education grades K-6 and an endorsement in ESOL education. It was during my internship that I discovered the joy (and good laughs) that gifted children contribute to the world. I earned my Gifted endorsement 4 years ago. In November 2008, I was delighted to learn that after a year long process, I became a National Board Certified Teacher.

My teaching career began at Devon Aire. I have had the opportunity to work with second, third, and fourth graders. The best grade by far is fourth! The students are entering a stage of independence and possess a thirst for knowledge. In addition to my role as a teacher, I am a grade level chair, and you may find me assisting teachers throughout the school as the Gradebook Manager.

With all the hats I wear at Devon Aire, I do make the time to kick back and relax. Don't be surprised to find me at Barnes and Noble debating which book to read next, the beach (usually with Ms. Poldo, one of our third grade teachers), catching one of the latest movies (usually action packed or funny ones), or making plans to take a road trip with friends.

Ask any of my former students the following questions about me, and you'll get an answer in a snap!

Favorite animal: Friskie, my cat

Favorite Starbucks drink: Chai Latte with soy milk

Favorite Ice Cream: mint chocolate chip

Favorite mammal: manatee

Favorite movie star: Hugh Jackman (aka Wolverine from X-Men)

Favorite T.V. Show: Burn Notice (with Psych coming in as a close second)

This year will be filled with opportunities for everyone to grow. Everyday will be a new adventure. I look forward to having a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Miss Milnes
