CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
ENTERING THE CLASSROOM
1. Upon entering the classroom, you should immediately go to your seat, copy the assignment from the board in your Assignment Notebook, and begin working on the assigned board work.
2. You should bring all necessary supplies to class each day including pens/pencils, paper, textbook(s), reading material, etc. Please do not ask to return to your locker.
3. All pencils MUST be sharpened at the beginning of class! Purchase a small personal pencil sharpener to be used at other times.
WHEN YOU ARE TARDY
1. You are expected to be in your seat when the bell rings or you are considered tardy.
2. If you have a written excuse, take it to your teacher and be seated.
3. Begin working on the assigned board work.
4. Students will receive a warning after the first tardy. After the 2nd tardy, the student will receive after school detention. After the third signing, the student will receive a discipline referral.
END OF PERIOD CLASS DISMISSAL
1. Remember: The
Bell Does Not Excuse You From My Class.
2. When you are told “Class is dismissed,” quietly put away your materials and exit the classroom.
3. If you are not seated when the bell rings, the entire class will have to wait to leave until you do so.
4. Do not quit working before the end of class! EVERY minute of each class is important!!!
WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT
1. It is your responsibility to request all make up work when you return from an absence.
2. You have one day to make up the work for every day you are absent. For example, if you missed 2 days of class, you have 2 days to make up the work.
3. You are responsible for copying down the assignment(s) for the days you were absent and getting all make up work from your teacher. Copying those assignments will benefit you even though you were not here on those days. (Hint, Hint…)
ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK
1. Organization is a major key to your success!!! Your assignment notebook will become your closest friend! Assignment notebooks will be graded periodically, at random! You are responsible for copying down the classroom agenda from the board everyday including homework, notes to parents, test dates, etc. Remember: NEATNESS ALWAYS COUNTS!!
PURSES/BACKPACKS
1. Backpacks, purses, cell phones, electronic devices, and personal items such as combs/brushes and cologne will NOT be allowed in the classroom. Please take care of all personal needs during your passing periods.
WORKING IN GROUPS
1. The teacher will usually determine how groups are formed.
2. Keep the conversations on task. If you do not, your grade may be penalized.
3. Work respectfully so that you do not disturb other groups.
4. Each person in the group is responsible for his/her own work. You must contribute to the assignment or your grade will suffer. Group work is not considered playtime nor is it time for you to get a free ride!!
5. If you have a question regarding the assignment, you must first ask your group members. If the entire group has the same question, you must raise your hand for the teacher's assistance.
IF YOU FINISH EARLY
1. You should always be working in class—Never just sit there!!
2. Suggestions of what to do once you have finished assigned work are: Silent reading, proofread your work, begin on another assignment, do extra credit work, etc.
RESPONDING TO A SEVERE WEATHER OR FIRE ALARM
1. Wait for my instructions.
2. Do not leave your seats until I have directed you—stay quiet.
3. Walk calmly and silently in the hallways---DO NOT RUN!!!
PARTICIPATING IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS
1 Raise your hand before speaking. DO NOT SHOUT OUT ANSWERS OR QUESTIONS!!
2. Respect everyone’s input. Criticisms will not be tolerated!!
PASSING PERIODS
1. Please use your 5 minute passing period wisely! Instructional time in the classroom is very important!
DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS
1. In order to have a productive learning environment, proper discipline is a must.
2. If your behavior is considered unacceptable, you will be warned First.
3. If the problem continues, we will follow the behavioral consequences as outlined in the student handbook.
NOISE LEVEL
1. Anytime during class, we must respect our peers as well as our neighbors. Keep voices at a whisper.
